MAYETTA: Potawatomi Tribal Fire Chief Richard “Mike” Mills died yesterday after succumbing to cancer.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 15, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mission Valley School, 12913 Mission Valley Road, Eskridge, Kansas and the funeral with Fire Department Honors is scheduled for Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at the same place.
Chief Mills was recently recognized by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation as Employee of the Quarter for his work with the Nation the past three years. Prior to his position with the PBPN he had worked for the Topeka/Tecumseh Fire Department for 23 years and for the Mission Township Fire District region for five years. He is originally from the Dover/Wabaunsee area.
