MAYETTA: The Department of Education is gearing up for the 2013 Summer Youth Work Program that will employ youth workers in various departments and programs this summer. There will be two sessions offered, one in June and one in July, that will employ 20 youth workers each. Qualified individuals will be hired for one session only through an application and interview process and is only offered to young Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation members between 14 (by June 1) and 18 years of age. Applicants must be presently enrolled in school, a GED program, or be a recent high school graduate and drug-free. Workers must also be willing to provide parent/guardian consent forms to participate in the program and provide their own transportation to and from their selected work site.
The first session will be held from June 3-June 28 and the second session will be held from July 1-July 26. Each youth must work a maximum of 30 hours per week and will be paid $7.25 per hour. Some departments and programs who have previously hired summer youth workers include Road & Bridge, Early Childhood Education Center, Division of Planning and Environmental Protection, and the Boys & Girls Club, to name a few.

Applications must be filled out completely by May 10 and interviews will be conducted in person for the first 40 eligible applicants on May 21 and May 22. Others will be placed on a waiting list.
