Southern Plains Tribal Health Board Seeks Community Engagement to Address Vaccine Hesitancy in Kansas Tribal Communities

Southern Plains Tribal Health Board seeks ideas for a new billboard aimed at encouraging members of all tribes in Kansas to get vaccinated. This billboard would appear on Highway 75 going south near Mayetta.

The concept of the billboard is similar to a campaign from the Urban Indian Health Institute “For the Love of our people.” After meeting with the PBP language department, phrases under consideration are: “We are thinking of you all,” and “I am thinking of you all.” The design will also include a phrase in English reminding readers to get vaccinated.

Tribal members of all age groups, enrolled or not, should provide their submissions using the following information:

  • Digital photos of their artwork, beadwork, or applique
  • A culturally relevant design for the background from Prairie Band Potawatomi, Kickapoo, Sac and Fox or Iowa people
    • Digital artwork must be submitted in vector format. (i.e. .ai or .eps files)

Additionally, interested Elders may submit a digital photo of themselves getting a vaccine or booster shot at the clinic.

Artwork, photos and or digital art submissions will need to be received by Friday October 8th, 2021.

Please share this information with relatives and friends who may be interested in sharing their original artwork and photos from our tribes to display on this billboard.

Those who share their images, may receive an incentive for their work, and have it considered for this billboard displayed for all of our tribal communities to see.
