Run-Off Election to be Held August 27: Ballots in the Mail

MAYETTA: The ballots are in the mail for a Run-off Election to be held Wednesday, August 27 at 9 a.m. at the Bingo Hall where three seats on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribal Council will be decided.

Candidates in the run-off election include Joyce Guerrero and Jackie Mitchell for Vice-Chair Person,  Chago Hale and Peggy Nioce Houston for Tribal Council Person #2 and Carrie O’Toole and Vernon Mzhickteno for Tribal Council Person #3.

Voncile Mitchell, who heads the Election Board, told the Potawatomi News that the ballots were going to be mailed today and that voters have until 9 a.m. on August 27 to get their ballots mailed back in to the Mayetta Post Office.

The Run-Off Election will be the first of its kind since the PBPN voted to change a Constitutional Amendment last November through a BIA Secretarial Election. Candidates must now win by a majority vote plus one or face a run-off between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes for each seat in the previous election.

In the Tribal Council/Ethics Commission election held July 26,  Ryan Dyer won Tribal Council treasurer by majority vote along with Shirley Trull, Viriginia LeClere, Frank Tecumseh, and Trilby Wahwasuck who will form the first Ethics Commission. All the winners ran unopposed.
