PBPN Leave for Gathering Hosted by Citizen Potawatomi


MAYETTA:  A bus with a group of elders left this morning for the 2010 Potawatomi Gathering being hosted by the Citizen Potawatomi Nation  in Shawnee, Oklahoma.   Three Tribal Council members are already there and attended an Economic Summit meeting yesterday with other Potawatomi tribal leaders.  Several other PBPN families are planning to drive their own cars to attend the Gathering that is in its seventeenth year.

Waiting for the bus to load from the Bingo Hall.  The bus left around 8:30 a.m. and the group hopes to arrive in Shawnee sometime mid-afternoon.

Bernadette Lewis, left, is celebrating her birthday today and rode in the Elder bus with another woman (unidentified), center, and Julia Lewis.  The Elder bus followed  the larger bus.  Yesterday a box truck was loaded by PBPN staff at the Elder Center that contains chairs and other camping gear that will be used during the Gathering.

Elders were on the bus and ready to go.  Waving, at right, is Janis Simon who is a helper for the Gathering.  Other helpers are LaVerne Hale, Boney Pahmahmie, Charles Nez, Billy Jim, Jr., Lance Wishkeno and Ben Green.
