PBPN Elder Julia Lewis Has Big Weekend Ahead

MAYETTA:  It’s a big weekend for PBPN elder Julia Lewis who is in her third year of organizing the Community Talent Show that was held last night and tonight and she will be honored as the Prairie Band Potawatomi Elder Queen in the Mayetta Pioneer Day Parade tomorrow.

The Community Talent Show is being held at the Rock Building that is next to the Government Center at 7p.m. The concession stand opens at 6 p.m. and Lewis said there are some great acts this year by members from the community.  Admission is $3 at the door with proceeds from the door going to whoever wins the contest.

Tomorrow Lewis will participate in the Mayetta Pioneer Day parade that begins at 3 p.m. downtown.  Tribal Council Secretary Jim Potter and tribal member Judy Darnell, who are both active in the Mayetta Business Association, will help coordinate the Pioneer Day activities that begin at 7:30 a.m. with a biscuit and gravy breakfast.  Besides the parade, there will be demonstrations, games, entertainment and an auction throughout the day and shopping in the stores.
