PBPN Awarded Public Safety Grant From Justice Department

MAYETTA:  The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation has been awarded $365,386 from the Comprehensive Tribal Victim Assistance Program through the Office for Victims of Crime. The grant is one of 169 grants awarded to American Indian tribes through the U.S. Justice Department and is one of three being awarded to tribes in Kansas.

More than $87 million in grants will go to tribes to enhance law enforcement practices and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts.

The grants are awarded in purpose areas including public safety and community policing, justice systems planning, alcohol and substance abuse, corrections and correctional alternatives, violence against women, juvenile justice and tribal youth programs.

The Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska was awarded $547,482 from the Violence Against Women Tribal Governments Program through the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas was awarded $449,824 from the Violence Against Women Tribal Governments Program through the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW).
