The Prairie Band Potawatomi Health Center announced this week that it has reactivated the Behavioral Health services component at the Center, and that Cindy Kelly, LMSW, who was with the program before, has returned.

Due to budget cuts in 2007 the program was disbanded until now.

Cindy began her duties February 2 and has an office located in the west wing of the Health Center.

Behavioral Health services include individuals, couples and family assessment, counseling, and/or referral for children through senior age.  The Health Center staff is looking at several options to expand the existing services and will keep the community updated on program additions as they develop.

Appointments are scheduled by Cindy and can be made by calling her at 785.966.8244. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Currently, there are no psychiatric services available.

Cindy is a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas.  Her father was an Iowa tribal member, and her mother was an Oklahoma Delaware tribal member.  She has lived in northeast Kansas most of her life and attended schools in Lawrence, Kansas.  She graduated from Haskell and also received social work degrees at the University of Kansas.

Cindy is a licensed master’s level social worker and has work experience and training in abuse/neglect investigations of children and the elderly, case management, trauma response, crisis intervention, psychotropic medications, family preservation, program administration, and therapeutic counseling.

“I am honored to be working for the Potawatomi Nation again,” she said when recently interviewed.  “I am looking forward to working in the community, being a part of the vision of the clinic, and the future of the Tribe.”
