Nawnee LittleAxe Crowned Prairie Band Potawatomi Princess

MAYETTA:  Danessa “Nawnee” Rachelle LittleAxe, 16, was crowned the new Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation princess last Sunday at the pow-wow and is seen above with outgoing princess Mechipyeha Johnson.

Nawnee is a junior at Bartlesville (Okla.) High School and serves as the student representative for the Operation Eagle Indian Education Program.  She travels throughout the United States competing at pow-wows in the southern cloth dance/jingle/scrub/and fancy shawl categories.

Her parents are Dennis and Quannah LittleAxe and she has a brother, Waskeh.  Her grandparents are Troy and Joanne (Kitchkommie) LittleAxe and Cindy Turley.  Nawnee is also a descendant of the Big Jim Band of Absentee Shawnee and Kitkehahki Band of Pawnee of Oklahoma.

The Prairie Band Potawatomi pow-wow was held last weekend in Prairie Peoples Park.
