VERNA J. WAHWEOTTEN

MAYETTA-Verna Jean “Wen-be-quah” Wahweotten, 56, of Mayetta, KS passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 with her family. She was born December 14, 1960 in Holton, the daughter of Vernon and Rosemary (Masquat) Wahweotten.

Verna was a lifetime member of the Jackson County community; most of her life was on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Common Land. She was a homemaker and free spirit.

Verna was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. She was a member of the Drum Religion and sat on the Marshno Drum.

She married William Dwight Wilbur in Mayetta; they later divorced.

Survivors include her father, Vernon Wahweotten of Mayetta, KS; 3 daughters, Nis Wilbur of Topeka KS, Keeg Toledo (Ricardo) of Mayetta, KS and Meex Wilbur (Patrick) of Topeka, KS; 3 sisters, Barbara Evans of Mayetta, KS, Lisa Wahweotten of Topeka, KS and Denise Wahweotten of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Alan Wahweotten of Mayetta, KS and 6 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosemary (Masquat) Wahweotten, and her brother, Joe Wahweotten.

Drum Services will be Tuesday evening, July 25, 2017 at the Danceground Building. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon, July 26, 2017 at the Masquat Cemetery.
