Verinna Renae Mitchell
June 21, 1985 – March 4, 2023
Verinna Renae Mitchell, 37, of Horton, Kansas, passed away with family by her side on March 4, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born June 21, 1985 in Horton, Kansas, to Leo Mitchell and Teresa Kay Jessepe. She was the daughter of Gary Allen, Phyllis and Ron Morris. She graduated from Horton High School. After high school, she worked for the Kickapoo Tribe and Sac and Fox tribe in different positions throughout the years.
Verinna was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
Verinna loved to attend Pow wows, watch the food channel, enjoyed trying different restaurants, taking her nieces and nephews swimming, going to concerts, reading but ultimately enjoyed spending time with her son the most. She was known for her quick wit, her infectious giggle and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Verinna was proceeded in death by her mother, Teresa Kay and dad’s Gary and Ron. She is survived by her father, Leo Mitchell, her son, Ezekiel, brothers, Solon, Tristan and Shawn. Sisters, Karmeka, Raven, Autumn, Shatah, Ashley, Brenda, Lori and Dawn. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Native American Church Services were held on March 8, 2023 at Wayne “Tab” Jessepe’s home. Burial was on Thursday at the Mijissepe Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. Flowers are appreciated and donations may be made to the trust fund for her son, Ezekiel.
