JULIA “Jon-yan” LEWIS

MAYETTA – Julia “Jon-yan” Lewis, 86, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born January 14, 1935, in Soldier, KS, the daughter of David and Minnie (Rose) Lewis.

Julia attended and graduated from Manhattan schools. She lived most of her life on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Common Land and also lived in Indiana and Illinois. She was a Registered Nurse, most recently working for McCrite’s Plaza in Topeka. Julia was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris Cochran of Topeka, KS; twin daughters, Judy and Joyce; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy A. Kiyukan-Ziegler; 2 sons, Raymond and Robert Bridegroom; 2 sisters, Mary Cell and Mickie Lewis and 4 brothers, Pete, David, Francis and Bill Lewis.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Shipshee Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.mercerfuneralhomes.com.
