Julia Ann Barber Obituary

BARBER

DELIA – Julia Ann Barber, 84 of Delia died Wednesday April 20, 2011 in

Topeka. She was born July 29, 1926 in Laona, WI, the daughter of Jesse and Evelyn Wally Whitefish Cook.

She graduated from Indian Vocational High School in Flandreau, SD in 1945. She worked as a waitress in South Dakota and Savorin Turnpike Restaurant in Topeka, at Stormont Vail Hospital in the laundry department and as an LPN in a nursing home. Julia was a member of the Episcopalian Church and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. She served on the PBPN election board for 12 years.

Julia married Willis Lee Barber. They were later divorced. He preceded he

r in death in 2008. Julia was also preceded by a son, William Lee Barber in December 2010; a half-sister, Mildred Engles and a great grandson in infancy, Steve Travis Perry, Jr.

Julia is survived by her children, Emily Ann Aitkens and Nancy Marie Counts both of Mayetta, Lori Lynn Molina, Jeffrey Scott Barber, Tony Dale Barber and Dwayne Charles Barber all of Delia; a sister, Helen Cantrell of Afton, OK; and brothers, Hal Blakeslee, John Blakeslee and William Blakeslee all of Muskogee, OK; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be at the Potawatomi Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Family will greet friends 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
