MAYETTA- Edward “Ed” Ray (NockquagieShuck) Wahweotten, 73, of Mayetta, KS passed away May 2, 2014 at Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka. He was born September 20, 1940 on the Potawatomi Common Land, the son of Ray and Elsie (Wahwassuck) Wahweotten.

Ed attended Mayetta Grade School and Pawnee Boarding School. He was an artist and worked construction. Ed was affiliated with the Native American Church and was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Survivors include 4 sisters, Mary Brown (Richard) of Mayetta, Inez Dodds of Mayetta, Cheryl Walker of Mayetta and Lorene Wahweotten of Denver, CO; 3 brothers, Ron Wahweotten (LaVeda) of Hoyt, Larry Wahweotten (Sondra) of Augusta, KS and Orville Rice, Jr. (Betty) of Topeka; an adopted sister, Lorene Hale-Thomas (Fred) of Horton and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 4 adopted brothers, Joe, Victor, Cecil and Phillip Hale.

Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Wahwassuck Cemetery. A potluck dinner will follow the burial at the Bingo Hall in Mayetta. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
