Dewey James Jessepe

Dewey James Jessepe, 50, of Horton, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at the HortonCommunityHospital. He was born on May 22, 1957 in Holton, Kansas the son of Louis “Roe Cloud” & Luetta Jean McKinney Jessepe. Dewey was an artisan of Native Culture and worked for the Kickapoo Fire Department for years. He was a member of the Potawatomi Tribe, Native American Church, a Charter member of the United Methodist Church-Kahbeah Fellowship were he served as head trustee and lay speaker. On May 17, 1995 he married Peggy Romero on the Kickapoo Reservation, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons, Ricky Wabaunsee, Clifton Wabaunsee and Gregory Wabaunsee all of Horton, Kansas; daughter, Lindsey Wabaunsee of Topeka, Kansas; brother, John Klusener of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Shirley Potts of Sabetha, Kansas; grandson, Dominick Wabaunsee and nephews and a niece. Wake services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends following the service until 8:30 P.M. Native American Church Services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Friday at Wayne Jessepe’s home on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the MjissepeCemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. Memorials may be sent to the Dewey Jessepe memorial fund in care of the mortuary.
