Ethics Commission Election Candidate Filing Period Now

MAYETTA:  There are six positions available on the Ethics Commission and tribal members have until April 30 to declare their candidacy.  Candidates can file for chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, commission #1, commission #2 or commission #3.  The election is scheduled for July 25 at the Bingo Hall.

The Tribal Council funds the Ethics Commission at a level sufficient to satisfy Constitutional and statutory obligations.  Commissioners are not paid for their service but do receive expense reimbursements incurred in performing their official duties.

The purpose of the Potawatomi Ethics Commission is to investigate and hear complaints against Nation officials which arise under the code of ethics provisions.  A copy of the codes can be found at http://www.pbpindiantribe.com/ethics-commission.aspx

Mailing of the Election Notice was mailed on April 8.  The Member Services Department and Election Board are handling the election and are located in the lower level of the Government Center.  Individuals must file in person and pay a filing fee of $50.  Candidates can withdraw until May 8.

The election is by mail-in ballot only and tribal members 18 years and older must be registered by May 20.  Other information is available in the mailing packet.
