MAYETTA: An awards ceremony was held today at the casino for the recipients of the 1st Quarter Charitable Contributions donations that amounted to $86,800. Thirty-one groups received awards.
Jane Metzger, Meals on Wheels, signs in for the ceremony. Meals on Wheels was given $4,500 that will provide funds for meals delivered in Shawnee and Jefferson Counties.
Taylor Haynes, left, and Chris Marshall from Haskell Indian Nations University were on hand as representatives of the college for a Stories-N-Motion Film Festival $1,000 donation and another $2,000 donation that was made for the spring commencement pow-wow. Both men also filmed the ceremony for a Haskell news show they produce.
At the podium is Tribal Chairperson Steve Ortiz who emceed the event. With him, left to right, is Dave Albrecht, General Manager of the Prairie Band Casino & Resort, Ryan Dyer, Tribal Council treasurer and Charitable Contribution Committee members Betty Rice, Wanda Treinen, Mary Carr and Lavera Bell.
