Casino Hosts BBQ Contest and Potawatomi Pow Wow

Mayetta, KS; May 14, 2013- Prairie Band Casino & Resort hosts the 3rd Annual Keepers of the Fire BBQ Contest June 7 & 8 and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Pow Wow June 7-9, 2013. Both events are open to all ages and offer a fun and unique entertainment experience located just north of Topeka.

 

The 3rd Annual Keepers of the Fire BBQ contest is a Kansas City Barbeque Society- sanctioned event, but before the teams compete on Saturday, the public is invited to do their own judging on Friday night from 5pm-10pm. The People’s Choice BBQ Tasting event will take place again this year, in addition to a new Best Sauce Contest and Steak Cook-Off Competition. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase and taste the BBQ with BBQ Bucks available at the gate. The 2nd Annual Bar-Be-Cruise Night Car Show will also take place on Friday night from 5pm-10pm and will feature music by the Les Glenn’s Golden Oldies Show. The BBQ takes place at Prairie Band Casino & Resort’s RV Park and admission is free.

 

This year’s BBQ competition will feature over 40 teams vying for the title of Kansas State Champion, which includes a $5,000 purse, an invitation to the 2013 American Royal and a chance to compete at the Jack Daniels Invitational. Total prize payout for the competition is over $18,000!

 

The annual Prairie Band Potawatomi Pow Wow will take place June 7-9 at Prairie Peoples Park located at 150th & M Road just down the road from Prairie Band Casino & Resort. Visitors will experience Traditional Native American drum and dance contests with over $100,000 in cash prizes. Grand Entries will take place Friday at 7pm, Saturday at Noon and 7pm and Sunday at Noon. The Pow Wow will also include concessions and authentic Native American craft vendors. General Admission weekend passes are $10; daily passes are $5. Parking is free outside the park. Inside parking is available for $5 per entry or $10 for the weekend.
