Car Accident Kills Three Near PBPN Yesterday

MAYETTA:  Three people were killed and one person injured yesterday in an accident involving a car and two semitrailers at US-75 highway and 162 Road near the PBPN headquarters.

 

Elizabeth Francis Belair, 19, a PBPN from Delia, Kan., Chris Albert Hernandez, 44, St. Marys, and Erick Charles Goslin, 17, of Topeka all died of injuries in the crash.

 

Another tribal member, Sharon Belair, 42, Topeka, also received injuries and was flown toStormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka by helicopter.  She remains in the hospital today and her condition is fair, according to the latest report from CJOnline.com.

 

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 11 a.m. when the car, driven by Elizabeth Belair, was headed west on 162 Road and ran a stop sign while trying to cross US-75.  The car was broadsided by one of two semis that were traveling south, side by side. The semi in the right lane struck the car and went into a ditch while the other semi was able to avoid impact.  Both truck drivers were not injured.

 

The accident closed southbound US 75 highway until 5 p.m. yesterday detouring traffic on 162 west to south on Q Road and then east on 158 Road.

 

Funeral arrangements for the deceased are pending.
