2021 Potawatomi Gathering Canceled

3.17.21

Potawatomi Nation,

It is with much concern for the health and wellbeing and out of an abundance of caution for our Elders and the greater Nation of Bodewadmi that the Tribal Council of the Hannahville Indian Community has decided to cancel the hosting of this year’s Potawatomi Gathering.

With the uncertainty of the Covid-19 virus along with the number of variant strains out there coupled with the uncertainty of the number of Tribal citizens able to and that have received the vaccine, the Tribal Council felt compelled to look to the side of caution.

We defer the hosting in 2022, back to Nottawaseppi Huron Band, and ask for your support in this decision and request to be placed in the rotation to host at another date sooner than our scheduled return in 2030.

We also offer to you, our greater nation of Potawatomi to come forward and provide assistance to and/or provide the coordination of another Virtual Gathering should you wish to.  The team that coordinated last year’s virtual gathering did a fantastic job and it is our hope that they step forward again to assemble and execute another.

With respect,
Hannahville Indian Community
