PUBLIC NOTICE: Potential Energy Blackouts Due to Extreme Weather

2.15.21

The Southwest Power Pool, which encompasses all electric providers in Kansas has gone to Energy Emergency Alert Level 3 which allows providers to utilize “controlled service interruptions” – essentially rolling blackouts.

The State Emergency Operations Center has confirmed Evergy has initiated rolling power blackouts of 30 to 60 minutes at a time. Evergy supplies smaller cooperatives that serve parts of the reservation. Residents of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation have the potential to be impacted.

The arctic cold impacting the United States has caused an unprecedented and severe strain on natural gas which powers a large portion of the power grid. Today’s power issues are due to a delivery bottleneck.

PBP Tribal Dispatch, 785-966-3024, is the central point of contact for all power outage and restoration information for the reservation.

Additionally, residents can access the Evergy Energy (formerly Westar) Outage Map at https://outagemapcentral.evergy.com/

BE PREPARED:
– Stay up to date on information through local stations such as WIBW and KSNT news for immediate updates.
– Keep your phone fully charged.
– If impacted, bundle up in extra layers of clothing, utilize blankets.
