Annual PBPN Tornado Drill

Tuesday March 8th

10:00 am

Our drill is in conjunction with the statewide drill

  1. Tribal Dispatch will sound our outdoor warning sirens to initiate the drill.
  2. Weather radios will alert (many people can’t hear the sirens inside).
  3. Stay in the shelter until the storm has passed.  For the drill it is 5 minutes after the sirens first sound. (our sirens run for 3 minutes per activation)
  • THERE IS NEVER AN “ALL CLEAR” SIREN.  ANY SIRENS SOUNDED ARE WARNINGS OF CONTINUED DANGER OR NEW TORNADOS
  • National Weather Service and FEMA recommendations are to NOT leave your normal wood frame or brick home to seek other shelter in a storm.
  • Cluster and Elder housing all fall into this category.  Most injuries occur from flying debris so being caught outside unprotected is life threatening.  The vast majority of tornados are survivable in a regular house if sheltering in an appropriate area such as a basement or an interior bathroom.
  • 11% of all tornados are considered “Significant” (EF2 or greater) but being exposed outside or near a window in even a “minor” tornado would be deadly.

Note: Weather Apps and Wireless Emergency Alerts MAY NOT activate during this test.
