Halloween Fun Begins and Red Ribbon Week Celebrated
October 27, 2011 -
MAYETTA: It's the end of October and this week people are celebrating Red Ribbon Week and already beginning to have Halloween fun.
Below are photographs from Red Ribbon week and a Halloween party that was held at the Firekeepers Elder Center yesterday. More events are on tap for this weekend and on Monday which is Halloween day. Tomorrow, judges will comb reservation government buildings looking for the best decorated Red Ribbon door and on Saturday night, a Trunk or Treat event is planned for the kids at the PBP Health Center (11400 158 Rd) parking lot from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Monday, Ben-no-tteh Wigwam Head Start and Childcare Center students will parade through the Boys & Girls Club gym where department and program employees will pass out treats. Following that, trick or treaters will parade through the other buildings in the K-Road complex (weather permitting) in the morning and afternoon. Lastly, on Saturday don't forget to turn in your unused or expired prescription drugs at the Tribal Police Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the National Drug Take Back Day.
A balloon release was held at the Child Care Center yesterday in honor of Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-31) that is designed to encourage communities to take a stand against drugs. The Child Care Center has been actively involved in the drug prevention program for several years by coming up with fun days for each day of the week. For example, yesterday was Wear all RED day at the center.
The Fire Keepers Elder Center held a Halloween party and the top three winners in the costume contest were (left to right) the Mad Hatter, an unidentified contestant, and the Mummy. The unidentified contestant took 1st followed by the Mad Hatter, 2nd and the Mummy, 3rd.
